The Southeast Asian country gave the president an exceptionally warm welcome, which was not solely because of the hot weather but also due to the well-organized nature of the visit. Putin thanked the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, the country's president, To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and all the Vietnamese people for their hospitality.
During the negotiations, both countries discussed the development of cooperation in the fields of energy, trade, foreign policy, and security, as well as overall strengthening of a comprehensive strategic partnership. Vietnam's president also underscored that his country always considers Russia a priority in its foreign policy.
