Ukraine's Lawmaker Says Political Parties to Be Funded From Citizens' Taxes

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Ukrainian political parties will be financed from citizens' taxes, Ukrainian lawmaker Dmytro Razumkov has said, adding that the parties have received 1.6 billion hryvnias (over $39 million) over the past two years during the state budget deficit.

"Not only the army but also political parties will be financed from the taxes of Ukrainians ... It is a shame that the state does not have enough money for the army during the war but has money for parties. And for these two years, they [the parties] received more than 1.6 billion hryvnias, of which more than 800 million went to [the] Servant of the People [party]. Unfortunately, the current Ukrainian politics lacks conscience and morality," Razumkov said on Telegram on Tuesday.
He added that a group of Ukrainian lawmakers has more than once proposed that state funding of parties during the conflict be canceled, but these proposals have been met with "fierce resistance" in the parliament.
Ukrainian newspaper Dzerkalo Tyzhnia reported on Tuesday that Ukraine's state budget expenditures since the beginning of 2024 amounted to about 1,257.9 billion hryvnias, and about 39%, or 494 billion hryvnias, was spent on salaries and support for military personnel.
One-fifth of the budget expenditures, or nearly 236.6 billion hryvnias, were allocated to social security, pensions, allowances, and scholarships, the newspaper reported. Some 101.3 billion hryvnias were spent on support for the Ukrainian armed forces and the purchase of military equipment and weapons.
Roksolana Pidlasa, the chair of the budget committee of the Ukrainian parliament, said on June 7 that the Ukrainian government plans to make changes to the state budget due to a deficit of almost 5 billion hryvnias.
