A joint statement is expected to be released, and a number of agreements are expected to be signed after the negotiations.
This will be Putin's fifth visit to Vietnam in the past 25 years. His first visit to Hanoi took place in 2001, and the previous one was in 2017.

Vietnam and Russia to Sign New Cooperation Agreements During Putin's Visit, Ambassador Says

Russia and Vietnam will sign new agreements to expand strategic cooperation during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi said.

"The visit provides both sides with the opportunity to sign and implement new agreements on cooperation, creating motivation for the development of bilateral relations. These agreements will not only bring economic benefits but also strengthen political and strategic ties between the two countries," the ambassador said in an interview with the Vietnam News Agency published on Tuesday.

The countries' leaders are expected to discuss the bilateral strategic partnership until 2030 and outline key areas of cooperation, including economy, trade, defense, energy, science, technology, education, culture, and people-to-people diplomacy, the ambassador added.
"Long-term goals and specific action plans will be defined to ensure sustainable and effective development of bilateral relations in the future," the diplomat said.
Putin's visit to Vietnam serves as a strong symbol of mutual respect between the two countries, the ambassador added.
As for trade between Vietnam and Russia, it exceeded $3.6 billion in 2023 despite the COVID-19 pandemic aftermath and global instability, signaling potential for further economic cooperation, he said.
"In terms of investment, Russia has around 200 projects in Vietnam with a total capital of about $1 billion. Vietnam's investments in Russia have increased sharply from approximately $100 million in the early 2000s to $3 billion in 2023-2024," he said.
The ambassador also highlighted the importance of actively developing bilateral cooperation in the energy, oil, and gas sectors.
