The meeting took place in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod, which hosts a meeting of BRICS foreign ministers.
"Given the shared understanding of the origins and causes of the crisis around Ukraine, further opportunities for South Africa and a number of other representatives of the Global South to contribute to finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict were discussed," the ministry said in a statement.
Lavrov and Pandor also shared views on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and other international issues, according to the statement.
