According to the office, Madbouly submitted the government’s resignation to El-Sisi during a meeting on Monday.
"The president has instructed Madbouly to form a new government of people with competence and experience," the office said in a statement.
In early April, El-Sisi began his third term as president of Egypt. Madbouly has served as prime minister since 2018.
According to the law, after the election of a new president of the country, the government must resign in order to form a new one.
