Most Republican respondents, 56%, will not change their vote based on the conviction, the poll report said.
More than one-third of Republican voters, 35%, are more likely to support Trump based on the conviction, the poll report said. Just 10% of Republican voters are less likely to vote for Trump due to the conviction, the poll report said.
Similarly, 56% of independent respondents would not change their voting decision based on the conviction, the poll report said. One-quarter (25%) of independents are less likely to vote for Trump and 18% are more likely to vote for him following the conviction, the poll report said.
The poll surveyed 2,556 US adults on May 30-31, in the wake of the jury’s guilty verdict, the poll report said.
On Thursday, the jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up a so-called "hush money" payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Trump has denied the accusations against him and expressed an intent to appeal the verdict.
Trump has also denounced the case as a "scam" and a form of election interference amid the 2024 US presidential election. US President Joe Biden said on Friday that it is reckless and dangerous to characterize the trial as rigged, adding that Trump had "every opportunity" to defend himself in court.
