ANC support will most likely not hit the 50% mark for the first time since 1994, however experts are certain the ruling party will still come out on top. Most likely, the "ANC government will continue, even if it is in a coalition', according to Dr. Oscar van Heerden, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for African Diplomacy and Leadership at the University of Johannesburg.
"The people of South Africa have spoken. They've given the ANC as the governing party a lesser mandate, but a mandate nonetheless, so I think they are going to see it in that light. Nothing necessarily is going to change. All that is going to happen is that South Africa, as a mature democracy, is now entering the realm of coalition politics," the political analyst says.
