The Nigerian Federal High Court jailed Chioma Okoli, a 39-year-old entrepreneur, on Tuesday over tomato sauce review, reports said. She faces up to seven years in prison or a fine of around $5,000.
Last September, Okoli published a post on social networks calling Nigerian company Erisco Foods' tomato sauce "pure sugar" and accusing the enterprise of endangering consumers’ health.
The woman was then detained for alleged violations of Nigeria’s Cyber Crime Prohibition Act. She was accused of conspiracy and cyberstalking by Erisco Foods, which claimed that her "malicious allegation" harmed the business.
Okoli's lawyer revealed that his client suffered a miscarriage as a result of the case.
