"There is a need, most notably, to redress the historical injustice regarding Africa, whose representation in the Security Council today is not in line with either the total number of states on the continent or their current role in international affairs," Chumakov said during a UNSC meeting.
Chumakov also pointed out the imbalance in representation, noting that Western states, which follow a strict bloc-based approach, are significantly overrepresented in the council.
Earlier in the day, the Security Council held an open debate on strengthening the role of African states in addressing global security and development challenges.
