The possible lifting of the economic blockade and other steps contributing to the restoration of the Syrian infrastructure will facilitate the return of Syrian migrants to their homeland from the European Union, Syrian lawmaker Khaled al-Aboud told Sputnik.
"If Europe wants to find a way out of the situation with Syrian migrants, then it needs to discuss the restoration of Syria's infrastructure, be it through the lifting of the economic blockade, providing assistance or creating a UN fund to support Syrian refugees who have found themselves in this situation due to the Western countries' support for terrorism in Syria," al-Aboud said.
The lawmaker noted that the migrants' return was the responsibility not only of the Syrian government, but also of "those who staged aggression and terror against Syria." There are two opposite points of view on the matter in the European Union, as some member states would like to resolve the migrant issue, while others would like to "benefit from this part of the population," al-Aboud explained.
"When problems occurred in some countries due to the presence of the significant number of Syrians and these countries began to look for a solution, the United States, the United Kingdom and France started to create obstacles," al-Aboud added.
Earlier this week, Polish broadcaster RMF FM reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that 15 member countries of the European Union, including Poland, had suggested building migrant accommodation centers beyond the bloc to send undocumented migrants during processing of their asylum applications, with the possible measures requiring new legal solutions.
A possible revision of the EU's asylum procedures may reportedly take place next year at the end of the Polish presidency of the bloc, as the European Union's current legislation does not contain such legal norms.
