Russia’s acting foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, has held a meeting in Moscow with Vice President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs for Libya's Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
"During the thorough exchange of views on the current situation in Libya, the Russian side confirmed its commitment to further contribute to the comprehensive and sustainable stabilization of the situation in this country. The importance of ensuring the inclusive nature of the national dialogue aimed at preserving the territorial integrity, unity and sovereignty of the Libyan state was emphasized," the statement read.
Senior officials stressed the importance of:
Conduct an inclusive national dialogue aimed at preserving the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Libya;
Consolidate international support for the efforts of Libyans in order to advance the political process.
Cooperation between Russia and Libya should be strengthened, they agreed: it is planned to resume the activities of the Russian-Libyan Intergovernmental Commission for commercial, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.
The meeting of senior officials of the Russian and Libyan foreign ministries took place against the background of talks on opening a Russian consulate in Benghazi.
