Chad's Prime Minister, Succès Masra, appealed to the country's Constitutional Council over the results of the presidential election, which took place on May 6.
Masra, former candidate in the election, is asking the body to annul the results of the vote. He received 18.5% of the vote.
Chad's interim president, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, received 61% of the vote and became the country'd leader, according to the country's electoral commission.
After former Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno died in 2021 from injuries received fighting rebels in the north of the country, a transitional military council led by General Mahamat Idriss Déby, the son of the late leader, was created to govern the country.
In 2022, the military council was dissolved, and Mahamat Idriss Deby was appointed interim president, while the transition period was extended until 2024.
