Over 230,000 residents of the state have been forced from their homes, some 67,000 of whom are in shelters, the media reported, citing the civil defense's bulletin.
The rainfall and its aftermath affected a total of 1.4 million people, with over 450,000 households remaining without electricity and some 600,000 without water, it added.
Heavy rainfall in Brazil's southernmost state on the border with Uruguay started on April 29. Meanwhile, meteorologists forecast that new heavy rains with strong winds will begin in the state on Wednesday. Local authorities said that already flooded areas could face a new influx of water and warned residents against returning to their homes.
