Russian region of Tatarstan intends to develop cooperation with Sierra Leone and The Gambia, said the head of the region, Rustam Minnikhanov.
He met with Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio and The Gambia's President Adama Barrow at the 15th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in The Gambia.
According to Minnikhanov, the current level of trade and economic interaction between the Republic of Tatarstan and Sierra Leone is modest. However, products made in the republic, such as helicopters and trucks, are well-recognized in the African market.
Minnikhanov highlighted that Tatarstan represents the northernmost part of the Muslim world. The region has established strong ties with the OIC and its institutions. President Bio emphasized the importance of shifting from state-level to region-level interactions in fostering bilateral relations.
During the meeting with President Barrow of The Gambia, both parties expressed their interest in expanding cooperation within the framework of Russian-Gambian relations.
