Between 100 and 300 vehicles were incinerated in a traffic jam in Nigeria's Rivers State, with at least four people dead, according to reports.
The jam was so severe that drivers were unable to steer their vehicles, leaving many trapped inside. Preliminary information suggests that the cause of the tragedy was a collision between two cars due to a reckless maneuver on the road.
The fire, which reportedly burned for hours on the Eleme section of the East-West Road, was finally extinguished with the help of several fire trucks and assistance from Nigeria's Indoroma Petrochemical Plant.
It took several hours for the fire to be extinguished. Search and rescue teams are still working and the number of casualties is still uncertain.
