Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi was received Saturday by Mali's head of the transitional government, Assimi Goïta. The meeting took place on the 20th of April in Mali's capital, Bamako, according to a statement from the Malian presidency.
Sidi delivered a message from the Mauritanian president to Goïta. The Mauritanian minister "welcomed the joint efforts of the two presidents to put in place concrete mechanisms to guarantee the security and stability of the sub-region and the calm of the populations."
This visit came a day after the Malian ambassador was summoned to the Mauritanian foreign ministry, according to the media. Nouakchott thus "expressed its protests against the repeated abuses suffered by peaceful Mauritanian citizens on Malian territory."
