The ongoing conflict in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces and paramilitary RSF has created a dire humanitarian crisis, with the UN warning that 800,000 people in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, are facing "extreme" danger.
"Fighting in El Fasher could unleash bloody intercommunal strife throughout Darfur," DiCarlo said, echoing a warning by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday.
The UN aid operations director, Edem Wosornu, warned that the violence "risks triggering further violence in other parts of Darfur – where more than 9 million people are in dire need of humanitarian assistance."
