Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would respond to Iran's drone and missile attack wisely, not on emotions.
"We will respond to Iran, but we need to act wisely and not act on emotions. They need to be put under stress the same way they made us feel stressed," Netanyahu was quoted as saying by Israeli broadcaster Kan on Monday.
In addition, Netanyahu said at a meeting with members of the ruling Likud party that Israel's response must be coordinated with the United States, the report read.
Netanyahu has asked the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to list a possible targets in Iran to send a "message" to Tehran without causing casualties, The Washington Post reported.
The potential options include a cyberattack or a strike on a facility in Tehran, an official told The Washington Post on the condition of anonymity.
According to the newspaper, Israel wants to respond in a way that does not anger its allies or undermine opportunities of building an alliance against Iran.
Moreover, IDF Chief of General Staff LTG Herzi Halevi said that Israel has activated an international coalition including such countries as the US, France and the UK to respond to Iran's attack.
"Across the skies of the Middle East, the coalition was activated to counter this attack marking the start of the IDF's operation: 'Iron Shield.' The Israel Defense Forces together with the United States Central Command, the British and the French armed forces and other partners operated together in real time in the air, on the ground and at sea," Halevi said in a video address on social media on Monday.
The military official added that "defense systems were activated, the threats were intercepted and Iran's attack on Israel failed."
Halevi thanked all the international partners and said that the attack created new opportunities for cooperation in the Middle East, adding that the operation Iron Shield proved "the strength of our [coalition's] ironclad cooperation."
At the same time, he said that the situation is being "closely monitored" and "Iran will face the consequences for its actions," with response to be chosen accordingly.
On Saturday night, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched over 300 drones and missiles at Israel in its first-ever direct attack on Israeli territory, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. The attack came in response to Israel's airstrike on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital in early April. IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said Israel had intercepted 99% of the aerial targets fired by Iran, including all drones.
