Thousands of people take to the streets of Niger's capital, Niamey, demanding the immediate withdrawal of US troops from the country.
The protesters gathered in front of the Nigerien Parliament building. Among them were officials, including the representative of the country's new leadership, Colonel Amadou Abdramane. The demonstrators carried the flags of Niger, Burkina Faso, and Russia.
Last month, Niger withdrew from a military agreement with the United States that had allowed a US drone base to be established in the north of the African country. Explaining their decision, Niger's military authorities said that the agreement had been imposed on the country and was not in the interests of its people.
