US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Senegalese President-elect Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Monday to congratulate him on his electoral victory last week, according to a release.
“Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Senegal’s President-elect, Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The Secretary congratulated President-elect Faye on his election and commended the people and institutions of Senegal for a peaceful and inclusive electoral process,” the release stated.
Blinken also emphasized America’s “strong interest” in deepening the US partnership with Senegal.
Faye, 44, is expected to be inaugurated as Senegal’s fifth president on Tuesday.
