Burundi Interested in Opening Branches of Russian Universities, Minister Says

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - In early March, Valery Mikhailov, Russia's ambassador to Burundi, said Moscow had allocated 100 budget university places for students from the East African country, calling the number a record in the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Burundi would like to open branches of Russian universities so that Burundian students could come to Russia also with language skills, the African country's Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Francois Habyarimana, told Sputnik on Saturday.
"We would like that. But so far there are not enough human and financial resources to implement it. It would be nice to organize such a format of education, so that students from Burundi who come here [to Russia] would have an easier time thanks to the language learned [in branches of Russian universities]," the minister said.

He added that while the idea is not on the immediate agenda but judging from his discussions with Russian authorities it is feasible.
