Burkina Faso and Rosatom, a Russian state corporation specializing in nuclear energy and high-tech products, are about to sign a roadmap that will lead to the construction of a nuclear power plant in the West African country.
This was revealed by Burkina Faso's Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, in an interview with Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the International Forum on Nuclear Energy (Atomexpo-2024), which is being held on the Russian territory of Sirius.

"The establishment of this power plant will initially help reduce the energy deficit and eventually support all sectors of Burkina Faso's socio-economic life," Gouba said.

In October, Rosatom signed a memorandum with the government of Burkina Faso on the construction of a nuclear power plant.
In addition, Rosatom is strengthening cooperation with other African countries, including Mali, Zimbabwe and Burundi, with which the company has signed agreements on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
