Share of Russian-African Settlements in Rubles Doubles Compared to 2022: Central Bank of Russia

The global trend towards using national currencies instead of the US dollar is gaining momentum, with the support of Russia and several African countries, as well as international alliances like the BRICS bloc.

The share of Russian-African settlements in rubles has doubled compared to 2022, data by the Central Bank of Russia showed.
In 2022, the volume of settlements in rubles with the continent was 21.9%, while in 2023 it amounted to 48.1%, the data revealed.

According to the bank, the volume of ruble settlements with American countries also increased significantly - from 22.7% to 35.1%. The share of the ruble in settlements with Asian countries grew from 20.5% to 24%.
Meanwhile, the share of payments in the currencies of unfriendly countries (euro, US dollar, and others) has significantly decreased from 45.1% to 20.5%, the data showed.
As a more multipolar landscape emerges, the world is increasingly shifting towards using national currencies for payments, Russia's Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov said in August at the 11th Moscow Conference on International Security.
