International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Mariano Grossi will meet with officials from several Russian agencies in Sochi on Wednesday to discuss the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which he described this week as "precarious."
Located on the left bank of the Dnipro River, the Zaporozhye power plant is the largest nuclear facility in Europe.
It came under Russia's control in early 2022 and has since been repeatedly shelled, raising safety concerns. IAEA experts have been monitor the situation on site since fall 2022.
Earlier, Governor Yevgeny Balitsky said that European structures, including the IAEA, do not recognize the shelling of the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, while such strikes pose a nuclear threat to the whole world.
