Burkina Faso's army eliminated the leader of the Al-Qaeda*-linked group, Hassan Idrissa Boli, the Burkinabe news agency AIB reported.
The military also destroyed about 26 militants of the so-called Support Group for Islam and Muslims as a result of fighting on the border of the country's Mouhoun and Nayala provinces.
Since 2019, Boli reportedly controlled militants in the provinces of Kossi and Banwa in western Burkina Faso, and also created one of the largest terrorist bases in the region in the country's village of Kinsere.
According to non-governmental organizations, at least 10,000 civilians and military personnel were killed by terrorists, operating in the country since 2015. Approximately 2 million residents of Burkina Faso have been forced to flee their homes.
