Top diplomats of Russia and African nations will hold a meeting in the Russian resort city of Sochi in accordance with agreements reached at the second Russia-Africa Summit in 2023, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.
"We are paying great attention to the implementation of the results of the second Russia-Africa Summit. It was held in St. Petersburg last year, and one of its decisions was to create a Russian-African forum at the ministerial level, at the level of foreign ministers. We will hold the first such meeting this fall in Sochi," Lavrov told a joint press conference after his meeting with Diop.
The second Russia-Africa Summit took place in St. Petersburg from July 27-28, 2023. The summit resulted in the adoption of a final declaration and a plan of joint actions until 2026.
Russia and Africa identified the main areas for further joint work, as well as outlined plans to strengthen foreign policy coordination and increase trade and investment flows, and industrial cooperation. The signed documents also seal Russia's and Africa's determination to develop cooperation in the areas of food security, the economy and counterterrorism.
