Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will meet with his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on March 6 to discuss bilateral relations between the countries, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.
"The Nigerian foreign ministry will visit Moscow on March 5-7. On March 6, he will hold talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. It is planned to consider a wide range of relevant issues of Russian-Nigerian relations, discuss possible ways to increase bilateral interaction, including intensifying political dialogue, expanding trade, economic and humanitarian ties," Zakharova told a briefing.
In mid-February, Nigeria's foreign chief told Sputnik that he plans to discuss the development of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy in Moscow, as Nigeria is interested in building a nuclear power plant in partnership with Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom.
The minister also noted that Nigeria supports the Russian plan to exchange payments with African countries in digital currencies, as it will facilitate trade and development of countries in the region.
