Palestine's Minister Praises AU's Position on Palestinian Issue & Political Support for Palestine

On February 17-18, Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, hosted the 37th summit of the African Union. The heads of states at the event gathered to discuss the most pressing regional and global issues, including the Israeli-Palestinian aggravation. The summit strongly denounced Israel's excessive use of force against civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Palestine's Minister of Social Development Ahmed Majdalani praised the African Union's position on the Palestinian issue, its actions and political support for Palestine.

"[...] The African Union condemned the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip and expressed support for an independent international investigation into Israel's actions. Palestine appreciates this very much," Majdalani told Sputnik.

Praising the AU's actions on the matter, the minister recalled that at last year's African Summit in Ethiopia, restrictive measures were imposed on the Israeli delegation.
At the beginning of the opening ceremony of the 2023 summit, a security officer approached the Israeli delegates and asked them to leave the hall.
At this year's 37th summit of the African Union, the countries of the organization demanded that Israel end its blockade of the Gaza Strip. The summit stressed that the African Union condemns Israel's use of excessive force against the civilians in the region.
