"President Noboa thanked the Russian side for the positive reaction to jointly look for ways out of the situation with the temporary suspension of part of Ecuadorian banana exports and reassured [Moscow] that every effort will be made on the Ecuadorian side to remove all the concerns of the Russian phytosanitary authorities," Sprinchan said.
Earlier in February, Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor, concerned about the situation with the supply of bananas from Ecuador, in which parasites were detected, asked Ecuador's agriculture minister to suspend the certification of five exporters of these fruits. The head of the local banana trade and export association (Acorbanec), Richard Salazar, said this affected almost 30 percent of banana supplies from Ecuador to Russia.
On Friday, Rosselkhoznadzor restored the right of five companies from Ecuador to supply bananas to Russia under guarantees from the Ecuadorian authorities, adding that details regarding the technical part will be discussed.
