Ghana Creating Commission to Study Possibility of Joining BRICS, Foreign Minister Says

Ghanaian authorities are creating a commission to study the possibility of the country joining BRICS, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey told Sputnik.
"I believe that is a serious statement [of the president]. It is a statement that is worth exploring. And so we think, we are exploring it, but, the president, who is somebody who likes to consult, has, puts in place a committee that will look at it and see, what their various views are on," the minister said on the sidelines of the meeting of the Executive Council of the African Union at the level of foreign ministers in Addis Ababa.

On January 1, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia officially became full members of the BRICS. Before that, the bloc consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
