Head of Niger's ruling National Council for the Defense of the Homeland, General Abdourahamane Tiani demanded compensation from France for over a hundred years of colonial and neocolonial plundering of Niger's natural resources, media reported.
The West African country will study all archival data on the recent history of Africa and draw up a detailed schedule for the payment of all debts that the French have accumulated towards Niger, Tiani reportedly said.
After the July coup in Niger, the West African nation is actively freeing itself from its historical association with its former colonizer, France. It ended military cooperation with France, achieved the withdrawal of French troops from its soil and the expulsion of the French ambassador to Niger.
