Executive Council of the African Union Meets in Ethiopian Capital

Established in 2002, the African Union (AU) is a pan-African organization composed of 55 member states representing the countries of the African continent. The Union aims to "promote Africa's growth and economic development by championing citizen inclusion and increased cooperation and integration of African states."

The Executive Council of the African Union opened its meeting in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
The 44th ordinary session will be held on February 14 and 15 at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member states, in preparation for the 37th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, scheduled for February 17 and 18.
The main objectives of the event are to find solutions to armed conflicts, with a particular focus on resolving the ongoing turmoil in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan, and to promote regional cooperation and long-term sustainable development.
