The verdict will be announced at 1 pm (12:00 GMT) at the Peace Palace in The Hague. The ICJ is not expected to rule on the main question of whether Israel is committing genocide in the Palestinian enclave on Friday, but will decide on possible emergency measures to suspend Israel's military activities in Gaza.
If ordered, the provisional measures may include an immediate ceasefire and an intensified flow of humanitarian aid to the war-torn exclave.
On December 29, 2023, South Africa filed an application with the ICJ, arguing that Israel's ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip violate the UN Genocide Convention. On January 11-12, the court held the hearings.
