Russia and Gabon discuss the steps taken by the new authorities of the African nation to stabilize the situation in the country, Russia's Foreign Ministry said.
On Tuesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met with Gabonese Ambassador to Moscow Joanna Roz Mamiaka at the initiative of the African diplomat, the ministry noted.
The diplomats also discussed the further development of traditionally friendly Russian-Gabonese relations with an emphasis on strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economic, investment, humanitarian and other spheres, according to the ministry.
In late August, Gabon witnessed the military annul the results of the August 26 presidential election, denying Ondimba a third term in office. The coup was led by Nguema, who is building ties with other countries as the interim leader of the Central African nation.
Elections in Gabon are planned for August 2025 under a timetable that includes a national dialogue first, Gabon's military leaders announced earlier.
