Chad's Interim President Mahamat Deby has departed to Moscow to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the African country's authorities said.
"The President of the Transitional Period, the President of the Republic, the Head of State, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, this morning departed to Moscow on an official visit at the invitation of Russian leader Vladimir Putin," the country's presidency said in a statement.
On Tuesday, the Kremlin announced that Putin would hold talks with his Chadian counterpart on Wednesday. The two leaders plan to discuss the prospects for the development of Russian-Chadian relations in various fields, as well as issues of the regional and international agenda.
Mahamat Deby has been the country's transition leader since October 2022, until then he headed the nation's military council, which governed the country after Chad's long-serving president, Idriss Deby, died in April 2021 from injuries sustained in fighting rebels in the north of the country.
Chad is scheduled to hold presidential elections before October this year.
