An emergency summit on the situation between Ethiopia and Somalia will be convened by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Djibouti Foreign Ministry said.
After Ethiopia and unrecognized Somaliland signed a memorandum to secure Addis Ababa's access to the Red Sea, IGAD on January 3 "expressed deep concern regarding" the situation in the East Africa and "recognised the potential implications for regional stability."
Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, threatened to use all means to prevent Ethiopia from accessing the sea at the expense of territory Somalia considers its own. On January 7, he signed a law "nullifying" the Ethiopia-Somaliland port pact.
On January 8, Ethiopia and Somaliland held negotiations regarding the development of military cooperation, the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) said.
