Iranian Navy Captures American Oil Tanker in Gulf of Oman

Earlier on Thursday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations of the British Navy said that the ship, which was boarded by intruders off the coast of Oman, had changed course and was heading toward Iranian territorial waters.

Iran's navy said it had captured a US oil tanker in the waters of the Gulf of Oman.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran Navy has detained a US oil tanker in the waters of the Gulf of Oman under a court order," the report said.
The Middle East has become a hotbed of tension since the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Palestine in early October and the attacks on merchant ships by the Yemeni Houthis.

A day earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken accused Iran of supporting the Yemeni Houthis' attacks on ships in the Red Sea by providing them with the necessary equipment, intelligence and other support.
Iran has denied accusations by Western countries over its alleged involvement in the Houthi attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea. Iran has also said that resistance groups in the Middle East, such as the Houthis, do not receive instructions from Iran.
