Sixty-four Burkinabe parliamentarians voted on December 30 in favor of the amendments of the Constitution, with 5 abstentions and 1 vote against.
Here are the main modifications:
National languages become official languages. French will be downgraded to a working language;
The missions of the Constitutional Council are expanded;
The National Intelligence Agency will become the National State Security Council;
The Superior Council of the Judiciary will include personalities who are not magistrates;
The High Court of Justice will be abolished and the right to judge political leaders will be given to the courts of common law.
Before promulgation, the law will be submitted to the Constitutional Council.
