A Bulgarian sailor from the Ruen vessel, captured by Somalian pirates last week, has been urgently hospitalized with the assistance of the Indian naval forces, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reported on Tuesday.
The incident with the Maltese-flagged ship occurred 380 miles east of Yemen's Socotra Island in the Arabian Sea. The ship had a crew of 18 people, including eight Bulgarian citizens and nationals of Angola and Myanmar.
With the permission of the pirates, the Bulgarian sailor was evacuated from the ship by being transported to the Indian military vessel that had been monitoring the situation in the area for several days. The sailor was then examined by doctors and placed in a special medical facility.
The vessel is currently located near the Somali coast in the Bandar Murcaayo port raid in the autonomous region of Puntland, BNT reported. Three ships from the Indian, Spanish and Japanese navies are operating in the area.
