Emir of Kuwait Dies at 86, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Announces

Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah succeeded to the throne after the death of his half-brother Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in late 2020. He was appointed Crown Prince on February 7, 2006.

Kuwait's Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah died at the age of 86, Kuwait's Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah announced on Saturday.
In late November, the state-run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported that the Emir had been hospitalized for health problems.
"We mourn for Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died on Saturday," the official told KUNA.
Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was the 16th Emir of Kuwait, who reigned from September 29, 2020 until his death on December 16, 2023. Born on June 25, 1937, he was the son of Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the 10th ruler of Kuwait.
He previously held several positions in the Kuwaiti government, including governor of Hawalli, minister of interior, minister of defense, deputy chief of the Kuwait National Guard, and first deputy prime minister.
Emir Nawaf will be succeeded by his half-brother, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber, as the new Emir of Kuwait.
