Hamas, in turn, blamed Israel for the renewed fighting in Gaza, and said that all of the movement's proposals to extend the truce were rejected.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the resumption of hostilities in the Gaza Strip causes nothing but deep regret.
The death toll from Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip on Friday exceeded 100, according to Palestinian media. The Hamas military wing Al-Qassam Brigades launched rocket attacks against the cities of Ashkelon, Sderot and Beer Sheva in response to the shelling of civilians, the organization said in a statement.
