The economy and trade ministers of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger formulated several recommendations as a result of their Saturday meeting in Mali, including the creation of a common airline for the Alliance of Sahel States, which unites the mentioned countries, and the establishment of the Alliance's stabilization fund and investment bank, according to the communique of the ministerial meeting.
"The ministers also stressed the need to improve connectivity between the three states of the ASS region through the design and implementation of road, air, rail and river network programs," the statement said.
Among other things, the ministers made the following recommendations:
the improvement of the free movement of people in the ASS area;
the construction and strengthening of infrastructure projects (dams, rural tracks, roads, pastoral perimeters, animal vaccination park, etc.);
the establishment of a food safety system common to the three ASS states through dedicated bodies (food safety stocks, Early Warning Systems, agricultural market observatories).
In September, the leaders of the three military-run states signed a charter establishing an alliance of Sahel states to "create an architecture of collective defense."
