A massive crowd descended on Addis Ababa's Meskel Square on Sunday to take part in the 10-kilometer Great Ethiopian Run, billed as the largest road race in Africa. The event attracted more than 45,000 participants from Ethiopia, other African nations and around the world.
From seasoned athletes to casual runners and walkers, the event sees a diverse range of people traverse the capital's bustling paved streets, with crowds of onlookers cheering them on.
This year's race has special significance as it marks the 23rd anniversary of the run, an event launched in 2001 by esteemed Ethiopian athlete Haile Gebrselassie to promote running as an inclusive and healthy activity for all Ethiopians.
In addition, the event serves as a significant economic stimulus for both Addis Ababa and the East African nation as a whole, generating millions in revenue each year.
The run brings together people from all walks of life, united by a common goal: to complete the race and enjoy the joy of running. As participants triumphantly cross the finish line, they are greeted with resounding cheers and applause, creating an atmosphere of exuberance and jubilation.
