Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera lauded the Saudi Arabian authorities for funding infrastructure projects in the African country, in particular, the construction of the Mangochi-Makanjira road, the Malawi government stated.
The president attended the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding between Malawi and the Saudi Kingdom on the road project at the Saudi Development Fund offices in Riyadh. He praised the "cordial relationship" between the two states, which, he noted, is trustful and dates back to 1999.
"I am extremely grateful with the relationship with Saudi Arabia which has since taken us to other levels; for example, the Mangochi-Makanjira road project which will have potential to facilitate inter and intra-trade activities," the leader stressed.
In addition, Chakwera highlighted the importance of the Mangochi-Makanjira road project for his country's development, the government revealed.
"President Lazarus Chakwera has described the Mangochi-Makanjira road project as crucial for social-economic development of the country," the government's statement on social networks read.
Moreover, Chakwera underlined that such projects as building the country's Phalombe District Hospital and upgrading the state's Makwasa-Bangula road were supported by Saudi Arabia as well.
The president also revealed that he "asked the Saudi Arabian government to assist Malawi with fuel and fertilizer issues."
Furthermore, Chakwera emphasized that mining investors from Saudi Arabia are welcome to explore Malawi's opportunities in the field.
On Friday at the Saudi-African summit the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince noted that his country would invest more than a billion US dollars on development projects in African states over ten years as part of the Saudi king's initiative.
