Anez will be tried for genocide over the protests in Senkata and Sacaba in November 2019, when some supporters of former Bolivian President Evo Morales, who resigned and left the nation under pressure from the military, were killed, El Deber newspaper reported.
The legal action is based on a report prepared by a special international commission which has been investigating the incidents, the newspaper said. The commission classified the actions of law enforcement agencies as a massacre and confirmed that at least 37 people had been killed, while hundreds had been injured amid protests against Anez's interim government, the newspaper reported.
In March 2021, police arrested Anez on suspicion of terrorism, incitement to rebellion, and conspiracy in the alleged coup. According to the investigation, she illegally declared herself president of Bolivia in breach of the country's constitution and laws. In June 2022, Anez was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in jail by a Bolivian court.
