Kenyan President William Ruto and his visiting Angolan counterpart Joao Lourenco signed 11 agreements aimed at deepening bilateral relations, the Kenyan presidency said.
The deals signed covered cooperation in areas such as wildlife and conservation, shipping and maritime, mining, youth, forestry, agriculture, ICT, oil and gas, health, diplomacy and civil service.
President Lourenco told the media that the documents lay a rich foundation for Kenya-Angola relations.
"This will usher in a new era of our common prosperity," he noted.
President Ruto added that these frameworks will "unlock the potential of our commercial and trade relations."
The Kenyan president also called Angola "one of Kenya's most dependable and strategic allies in Africa" and announced the lifting of visa restrictions for all Angolan citizens to ease the free movement of people.
"Angolans coming to Kenya will not require a visa. Angola will equally consider the same for Kenyans," Ruto stated.
Moreover, the two countries will push for the resumption of direct flights between Nairobi and Luanda, the presidency said, "so that we can escalate our rising trade numbers." The direct connection between the capitals of the countries was suspended due to the COVID pandemic in 2020.
With regard to multilateral cooperation, Kenya pledged to support Angola's candidature for membership in the African Union Peace and Security Council.
Joao Lourenсo's visit was the first-ever trip by an Angolan President to Kenya.
