Niger's military authorities have demanded the departure of the head of the UN mission in the country within 72 hours, an official statement reads.
Influenced by France, the UN used "underhanded maneuvers" to impede Niger from fully participating in the UN General Assembly and other international events last month, the statement alleged.
On July 26, a military takeover took place in Niger with President Mohamed Bazoum overthrown and detained by his guard, led by General Abdourahmane Tchiani. Following the coup, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) suspended all cooperation with Niger and threatened military intervention. In contrast, the military authorities in neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso expressed solidarity with Niger's new leadership and formed a military alliance with the nation.
