Russian Language Education Center Opens in DR Congo

In the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kinshasa, a grand opening of the Center for Education in the Russian Language took place, Alina Mirzakhanova, press attache of the Russian Embassy in the DRC, told Sputnik.

"The opening ceremony of the Center for Open Education in Russian and Russian Language Teaching was attended by Ambassador A. L. Sentebov, the rector of the University of Kinshasa, the scientific advisor of the Ministry of Higher and University Education of the Democratic Republic of Congo. A video message was sent by the Rector of the All-Russian State Pedagogical University S. Filonenko," Mirzakhanova said.

She noted that in early April, a delegation from the Voronezh State Pedagogical University (VSPU) arrived in the country to discuss the prospects of opening the first center of the kind in the history of Russian-Congolese relations, adding that the delegation held meetings with the Minister of Higher and University Education of the Republic, Muhindo Nzangi Butondo, and the leadership of a number of local higher education institutions.

"This project is being implemented on the initiative of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation to popularize the Russian language and Russian education abroad. To this end, Russian teachers from the VSPU will give free lessons for two months to 300 students of classes held on the basis of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Kinshasa," Mirzakhanova added.

The Center for Open Education in Russian and Russian Language Teaching in the Democratic Republic of Congo is the latest among similar centers opened within the framework of the international humanitarian project "Russian Teacher Abroad" in a number of African and Asian countries. The project is aimed at promoting the Russian language and Russian education abroad with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education.
