Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi said at a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev that Cairo deeply appreciates bilateral cooperation with Moscow, especially joint projects such as the construction of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant and the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal area, Sisi's office said on Wednesday.
"President [Sisi] conveyed his sincere greetings to [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin, highly appreciating the bilateral cooperation between the countries, the increase in turnover and the joint projects currently underway, especially the construction of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant and of the Russian Industrial Zone in the area of the Suez Canal," the Egyptian presidential office said in a statement.
For its part, the Russian Security Council added that Sisi and Patrushev discussed bilateral cooperation in economy and security, as well as within the BRICS framework.
"[Sisi and Patrushev] discussed issues pertaining to Russian-Egyptian cooperation in security and economy. They also addressed the matters of Moscow-Cairo cooperation within the framework of BRICS and exchanged views on a range of international issues," the council said in a statement.
Moscow will provide Cairo with assistance to ensure its comprehensive integration with BRICS, Patrushev told Sisi, as quoted by the Russian government's official newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
"We expect Egypt's due representation at all Russian-hosted events, including the meeting of high representatives of member states in charge of security matters," the Russian official said.
The development of Russia-Africa relations meets the interests of all stakeholders and is one of the pillars of a "new multipolar works and a just system of international relations," he said.
Patrushev conveyed greetings from the Russian president and said Vladimir Putin "presumes the cooperation within the areas discussed on the margins of the second Russia-Africa Summit held on July 26 will continue."
The summit took place in the Russian city of St Petersburg. Putin said on the margins of the summit that Russia and Egypt were carrying out wide-scale projects together and the construction of El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant was going according to the plan.
Putin also noted at the time that Egypt accounts for a third of Russia's trade turnover with Africa. In 2022, trade turnover between Russia and Egypt grew by 28.8%, and in the first five months of this year added another 7% to last year's indicator.
