Tunisia's Local Council Elections Set for December 24, President Says

TUNISIA (Sputnik) - President Saied pointed out that the date of the elections was set on December 24 to pay tribute to Mohamed Laamari and Chaouki Hidri, who fell as martyrs on December 24, 2010 during the riots of the Tunisian Revolution.

Elections to regional and district councils will be held in Tunisia on December 24, President Kais Saied said.
The elected members of regional and district councils will form the Council of Regions, the upper house of the Tunisian parliament.
“Today I am announcing that a decree will be issued calling on voters to take part in the elections that will be held on December 24,” Saied said.
